Forensic media analysis with AI

Sinabis Explorer indexes images, videos, audio and documents on a storage device and classifies them locally with AI. Flagged material comes first, sorted by confidence. Free and fully offline.

Confidence

Thousands of images, only a few that matter.

And someone has to look at each one.

A seized hard drive or USB stick quickly holds tens of thousands of photos and videos. In investigations into child sexual abuse material, but also in fraud, extortion or threat cases, the decisive material is often a tiny fraction of that. The rest is holiday pictures, screenshots and advertising graphics.

Reviewing such collections by hand takes days and puts a heavy psychological burden on the people doing it, especially with distressing material. At the same time, the cloud is out of the question. Neither content nor hashes nor metadata may go to third-party services in these cases.

This is where Explorer comes in. The AI runs on the workstation itself, sorts media into categories and highlights what is very likely to be incriminating. Previews of flagged files are shown obscured to protect victims. For analysing communication and documents in the same case, there is eDiscovery.

What Explorer finds on a storage device.

Six tools for large media collections.
  • 01

    AI detection

Every image and every video is checked, and harmful or explicit content is flagged with a confidence score. The list starts with the surest hits.

  • 02

    Automatic categories

Images, videos, audio files and documents are separated, and image content is classified into people, objects, animals and documents. Neutral material can be hidden.

  • 03

    Prompt filter

Describe in your own words what you are looking for, such as photos of handwritten notes with numbers. Explorer turns that into a filter for this case.

  • 04

    Protected previews

Material flagged as incriminating is shown obscured. That protects victims and relieves everyone who works with the data.

  • 05

    Any data source

External hard drives and USB sticks directly over USB or SATA, forensic images in AD1 and E01. A drive is searchable within a few minutes.

  • 06

    Runs on your own computer

Indexing and classification run locally on Windows 10, Windows 11 or Linux. No internet connection is needed, and a graphics card with CUDA speeds up the analysis.

826 media files, eleven of them flagged.

A storage device after the scan in Explorer.

Explorer has fully indexed the storage device and classified every file on the computer itself. 815 media files count as neutral, eleven were recognised as explicit by the AI and highlighted in the sidebar.

  1. 01

    Neutral and explicit

The first group separates unremarkable material from what should be reviewed first.

  2. 02

    Categories

127 images with people, 175 with objects and 60 with animals can each be opened on their own.

  3. 03

    One search field

A field above the view searches all 826 media files on the device.

A few steps to what matters.

Connect, let it classify, review.
  1. 01

    Connect

Attach a drive over USB or SATA or load a forensic image in AD1 or E01. For original evidence drives we recommend a hardware write blocker so that nothing is written to the exhibit.

  2. 02

    Scan and classify

Explorer indexes every media file and classifies it with AI, directly on the device. It shows continuously how many files have already been processed.

  3. 03

    Filter and review

Jump straight to flagged material, browse the categories or set a prompt filter. Everything stays on the computer that runs Explorer.

  4. 04

    Continue in the case

If the media belong to a larger case, we process them together with emails and documents. We take care of the forensic data processing and provide everything in Inspector.

    Nothing leaves the device

No file, no hash and no metadata is sent to a server. Explorer works without an internet connection, even in isolated networks.

  • 02

    Protection for reviewers

Incriminating material is flagged and only shown obscured. That way people need to actually look at such images less often.

  • 03

Police, companies, NGOs and researchers use the same program. There are no fees and no ads.

Questions about media analysis.

About Explorer and its AI.

Your question is not listed? Write to us.

  • No. You download Explorer without registration and use it without fees and without ads. Costs only arise if you additionally commission us to process a case.

  • Every classification carries a confidence score, and the list is sorted by it. The AI pre-sorts, it does not decide. Whether material is relevant under criminal law is assessed by the investigators themselves.

  • If you connect original evidence drives directly, yes. A hardware write blocker prevents data from being written to the exhibit while it is read. Images in AD1 or E01 do not need one. A NIST-tested SATA write blocker is available on sinabis.com.

  • A computer running Windows 10, Windows 11 or a Debian-based Linux such as Ubuntu. A graphics card with CUDA support is not required, but it speeds up the classification of large collections considerably.

  • Yes. Videos are checked and classified like images, and audio files and documents appear in their own categories. The entire media collection of a drive can therefore be searched in one place.

  • It was developed primarily for that, but it is useful far beyond. With the prompt filter you can find entirely different subjects too, such as photographed documents in a fraud case.
